(UPI) — On April 6, the United Press International (UPI) published an article titled The Biden administration announced new sanctions on Wednesday that targeted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s two adult daughters, whom he has kept out of the spotlight since assuming power two decades ago.

Katerina Tikhonova, 35, and Maria Vorontsova, 36, were named in the Treasury Department’s latest round of economic sanctions, which also targeted Russian banks and other individuals.

The two women were accused by the Biden administration of working in support of the Russian government. However, little is known about the sisters because both women have largely avoided the spotlight, and Putin himself has kept a low profile when it comes to his family.

Tikhonova’s work as a tech executive, according to the Treasury Department, benefits the Russian government and defense industry. In the meantime, Vorontsova is a pediatric endocrinologist who directs government-funded programs that Putin personally oversees.
