The public battle between Lagos State’s transportation unions resumed today.
Gunshots were heard at Meiran – Ijaiye axis and Ekoro road in the Abule-Egba area on Friday morning, according to Dailypost.
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Nigerian Tricycle Owners and Operators Association are fighting each other (TOOAN).
The rivals are Musiliu Akinsanya a.k.a. MC Oluomo, the suspended Lagos NURTW Chairman, and Istijaba.
Istijaba, whose real name is Azeez Abiola, is the State Chairman of TOOAN.
In recent years, the leaders have clashed over personal and labor issues.
With the open use of charms, guns, machetes, and other weapons, the situation has now devolved.
Residents have been assured of their safety by the Lagos State Police Command, which has dispatched operatives to the scene.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer, clashes at Ekoro Road and Oke-Odo are no longer taking place.
The spokesman tweeted, “Men from nearby divisions and the RRS are fully on the ground, and the areas are completely calm.”
Rival unionists clashed last week between Fagba and Abule Egba. Despite the government’s pledge to prevent reoccurrences, such clashes occur frequently in Lagos.
