David Beckham, a former Manchester United player, has pushed Cristiano Ronaldo to extend his stay at the club beyond the summer transfer window.

On Saturday, the Red Devils were defeated 4-0 by Brighton, and they are fighting for sixth place for Europa League qualification.

With Erik ten Hag coming over as manager and a couple of out-of-contract players departing Old Trafford, United will see substantial changes next season.

Ronaldo, who has one year remaining on his contract, has also been linked with a move.

Beckham, on the other hand, is keen for the Portuguese superstar to stay with the club.

“Obviously Cristiano is one of the best players over the last 15 years with Leo [Messi],” Beckham stated to Sky Sports during the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday.

“It’s vital for the fans to see him stay – hopefully stay – at United. It’s significant to him; we all know how much he values Man United.

“And he’s still scoring goals and generating opportunities.” Cristiano does exactly that. Even at his age, to be doing what he’s doing is quite remarkable, so let’s hope it continues and he stays for another year or two.”
