During the American Music Awards on Sunday, boos greeted Chris Brown’s victory.
The 33-year-old musician received the award for Favorite Male R&B Artist at the 2022 ceremony but was not present to take it.
The audience began to boo as Kelly Rowland proclaimed Chris as the winner and accepted the prize on his behalf.
Kelly, 41, of Destiny’s Child, said, “Chris Brown is not here tonight, so I’m accepting his award on his behalf…”
As the audience continued to boo, Kelly addressed the crowd: “Excuse me while I relax. I want to thank Chris for creating fantastic R&B music, and I want to thank him for being an incredible performer. I’ll accept this honor and present it to you; I adore you; and congrats.”
Chris won the prize over other nominees Brent Faiyaz, Giveon, Lucky Daye, and The Weeknd at the Microsoft Theatre.
