Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has stated that his decision to run for President is not motivated by a desire to secure the Peoples Democratic Party’s Vice Presidential ticket.
Wike made the announcement while speaking to PDP delegates and leaders in Calabar, Cross River State’s capital, on Wednesday.
The PDP presidential candidate stated that he was in the state to meet with party members and demonstrate his seriousness about becoming Nigeria’s next president.
Wike also denied claims that he had secretly filled out Senatorial forms, as have other party aspirants.
“I’m here to introduce myself to you,” he said. We’ve begun the process, and I’ve made myself available to the people of Cross River. I’m running for President, and I’m not running for the sake of running. I will win the party’s nomination and the presidency of this country.
“I’m not running for Vice President or anything else. In case I fail, I have not collected a senate form or any other form. Some people have sent cronies to collect Senate forms on their behalf in the event of a consensus.
“I came here to meet you face to face. Some are sending representatives to speak with them. I have an excess of energy and am eager to explore every nook and cranny of this country. Trust people with energy, and I have plenty of it.”
